Attorney Newman is nearly a life long resident of the Flint area. After graduating from Flushing High School, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. While at the University of Michigan he was active in student government, a member of the Michigan Economics Society and the school's lacrosse team. Attorney Newman's legal studies took place at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. While at John Marshall, Mr. Newman was a member of the Dean's Student Advisory Committee, Editor-In-Chief of the school newspaper, and a recipient of the Wall Street Journal award for his work in various business law classes. In addition to his studies, Mr. Newman received valuable work experience as a representative of Westlaw, a leader in online legal research, and as a law clerk for three laws firms, all specializing in business law, litigation and collection work.
After graduating from law school in Chicago, Mark returned to his home state of Michigan and accepted a position as a Policy Advisor to the Financial Services Committee of the Michigan State Senate. Upon admission to practice law in the State of Michigan, he became an Assistant Majority Counsel in the Senate. During his tenure with the State of Michigan, he was involved with the research and drafting of numerous bills and dealt with issues ranging from banking, real estate, health care, and the State's budgeting process.
In March of 1997 Attorney Newman joined a law firm in Flint Township, Michigan. During nearly ten years of private practice with this firm, he handled matters at all levels of the State's court system, from District Court up to and including the Michigan Supreme Court. Also, Attorney Newman was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in June of 1997 and has handled several matters in federal court. In addition to litigation, Attorney Newman has handled large business transactions involving, in some instances, several millions of dollars.
In January of 2007, Attorney Newman opened his own office, The Law Offices of Mark J. Newman, PLLC. His practice continues to involve both individual and corporate clients. All aspects of litigation are handled by the firm, as well as transactional work, and daily counseling of clients. Most matters can be handled by the firm; however, if it is felt that a matter would be best served by another attorney, a network of referring attorneys is utilized.
In addition to his legal practice, Attorney Newman is the Chairman of the Flushing Township Planning Commission, a member of the Community Leadership Committee for the Flushing Community Schools, and is involved in numerous community activities, including, Boy Scouts of America and athletics which involve his son and daughter.
